Loyd Star splits with West Lincoln in junior high action

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets and the West Lincoln Bears captured wins in junior high and seventh grade basketball action Tuesday night at Loyd Star.

In junior high girls action, the Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Bears 27-25 in overtime.

Taylor Smith directed the Lady Hornets with 10 points. Carly Beth Wallace chipped in with five points. Whitney Watts and Malori Cade scored three points each.

For West Lincoln, Alesia Chism led the Lady Bears with 10 points and Julianna Crosby netted nine points.

In junior boys, West Lincoln cruises past Loyd Star 45-29.

Anthony Hughes was the top scorer for the Bears with 12 points. Karlton Byrd added eight points. Michael Brothern, Keshon Byrd and Anthony Hughes netted six points each.

Tanner Watts was the leading scorer for the Hornets with 12 points. Stephen Mills provided eight points. Roberto Galindo had five points and Reese Dehart scored two points.

In seventh grade girls action, Loyd Star won 13-5 over West Lincoln.

Marleigh Bullock paced the Lady Hornets with eight points. Jaycee Case netted three points and Marlee Rogers had two points.

Christiana Freeman led the Lady Bears with five points.

In boys action, West Lincoln defeated Loyd Star 35-17.

Jeff Carroll powered the Bears with 13 points. Terrill Lenoir chipped in eight points.

Thomas Kelly was the leader for the Hornets with 17 points.
