SUMMIT – The Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves snapped a four-game losing streak with a sweep of the Southwest Lady Bears on Monday in Summit. Trailing 3-2 in their final at-bat, Co-Lin got a three-run home run from Jessica Crum to capture a 5-3 win over the Lady Bears. In game two the Lady Wolves piled up 16 hits to take an 8-4 win.

Co-Lin 5, Southwest 3

Southwest held a 3-1 lead as the game moved to the top of the seventh inning. Freshman Lauren Brashier led off the inning with a single for Co-Lin. A McKenzie Brock sacrifice bunt moved Brashier to second. Brashier then moved to third on a Mattie Avants single. The next batter, Savanah Johnston, flied out to foul territory, and Southwest was one out away from ending the game. Brittany Barbay then reached on an error on her hit to third base. Pinch runner Greta Carley scored on the play. Avants, who had previously stolen second, moved to third on the error. That all set the stage for Crum’s heroic hit, a three-run bomb that gave Co-Lin their first lead. It was her 11th homerun of the season. Crum also had an RBI in the third inning that put the first Co-Lin run on the board. Crum leads the team with 42 RBIs this season.

McComb High School alum Kamry Creel picked up the win in the circle after giving up three runs (one earned) in seven innings. Creel struck out three and walked one.

Co-Lin 8, Southwest 4

With the game tied 4-4 after three innings, Co-Lin scored one run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to seize the momentum and the victory. Kaitlyn Taylor and Breanna McKenize had three hits apiece for Co-Lin. Lady Wolves with two hits apiece were Kristen Byrd, Jessica Crum, Carmen Perry, Payton Sheffield and Greta Carley. Sheffield and Taylor each hit a double, and Crum added another homerun. Byrd and Crum had an RBI apiece, Sheffield knocked in two RBIs, and Taylor led the team with a three RBI effort.

Freshman Lucy Lewis garnered the win after giving up four runs (two earned) in seven innings. Lewis struck out three, walked two and surrendered four hits.

Co-Lin (13-13, 7-11 Division) hosts Jones County on Wednesday in Wesson for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. An audio broadcast of the game can be heard on colinathletics.com or on WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.
