Wolfpack soccer sweeps at Itawamba

WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln soccer teams made the nearly five hour trip to Fulton on Tuesday as they took on the Itawamba Indians in MACJC action.

The Wolfpack (2-4) would jump on the board early with a goal by Eric Lima on the team’s second shot of the game. Itawamba (2-1) would come back to tie the game in the 41st minute to send the match into a 1-1 draw at halftime.

The second half would be unkind to the Wolfpack as Itawamba would score the go-ahead goal on a penalty kick. ICC would add one more goal, just before the final whistle, to push the final score to 3-1.

The Lady Wolves (0-5) would fall behind 3-0 at the half against the Lady Indians (1-2) and go on to lose the match 8-1. Freshman Mollie Simpson did put the Lady Wolves on the scoreboard in the second half with her first career goal.

The Itawamba match was the end of a three game road swing for the Wolves and Lady Wolves. The men fell 3-1 at Holmes on Aug. 27. Blayne Jones scored his team leading second goal of the season in the loss. Four days later, on Aug. 31, the Wolfpack went down 5-0 to the Hinds Eagles in a match played in Raymond. The Lady Wolves fell 7-0 at Holmes and 4-0 to Hinds.

Both teams are back on the pitch for their south division opener when they host the Meridian Eagles on Friday, Sept. 6. Women’s action begins at 4 p.m., and the men follow at 6:30 p.m. on the Co-Lin soccer field.
