Vicksburg police: Juvenile involved in drive-by earlier in the day before shooting 17-year-old girl

From The VicksburgPost

VICKSBURG — The 15-year-old juvenile facing aggravated assault charges in the shooting and wounding of a 17-year-old girl Monday afternoon, faces a second charge of drive-by shooting involving shots fired at the same apartment complex where the girl was shot, Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.

Edwards said the drive-by shooting occurred about 2:51 a.m. Monday — almost 12 hours before the girl was shot. The second shooting was discovered during the police investigation into the reported assault.

The 17-year-old shooting victim remains at University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her condition was unavailable. The 15-year-old remains at the Warren County Youth Detention Center pending the results of a certification hearing held Tuesday in Youth Court. Their names have not been released.

Police responding to a call of a shooting at 1001 First East St. about 2 p.m. Monday arrived to find the 17-year-old girl in one of the apartments shot in the neck.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Merit Health River Region and later transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

The case remains under investigation.
