Hospice volunteers give comfort to those served

Dear Editor,

My name is Zelline LaFleur and I am the volunteer coordinator at Hospice Advantage in Brookhaven. I am writing because I want to let our community know about the wonderful gift of hospice.

For those of you who have experienced hospice first-hand, you know what a valuable resource we have in our community. Hospice provides our loved ones, our friends, and our neighbors with the most dignified care at the most difficult time.

The hospice concept and movement has grown out of the commitment and vision of thousands of volunteers. From the beginning, and still today, volunteers are at the heart of hospice.

Hospice volunteers share their skills and interests to provide comfort and enrich the quality of life for those served. Volunteers provide companionship, make friendly visits, share hobbies, assist with errands, and do so much more.

I want to encourage everyone in our community to learn more about hospice and also let you know the difference hospice volunteers make in the lives of patients and families. To be invited into the last months, weeks and days of a person’s life is an honor and a privilege.

Thank you kindly,

Zelline LaFleur
