Enterprise-Clark exterminates Lady Hornets

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets saw their magical season come to an end late Saturday night as the Enterprise-Clark Lady Bulldogs eliminated the Lady Hornets 18-5 in Game Three action in the second round of the Class 2A state softball playoffs.

In Game-Two action, the Lady Hornets survived an eight-inning marathon to gain a 7-6 victory over Enterprise-Clark.

In last Friday contest, the Lady Bulldogs overwhelm the Hornets with earn a 7-2 win in Game One.

“The girls did a good job fighting back to win game two,” said Loyd Star coach Jan Delaughter. “In Game Three, we just self destructed in the third inning. We committed six of our eight errors in that inning and never recovered. Enterprise-Clark has a very good team. They can play both of sides of the ball exceptionally well. They will be hard to beat and I look for them to make it to the finals. Overall, I was very pleased with my girls effort and we had a great season.”

The Lady Hornets conclude their season with a 23-4 overall record. Loyd Star was the won the Region 7-2A title as they finished undefeated with an 8-0 record.

Ent-Clarke 7, Loyd Star 2 

Mackenzie Smith suffered the setback on the mound for the Lady Hornets with one strikeout and one walk. Kelsie McCullough (0K, 0BB) also saw some action in relief.

Ali Gartman was the offensive leader at the plate with a double and two singles. Abigail Thornton and Julie Smith hit safely.

Loyd Star 7, Ent-Clarke 6 

McCullough was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornets as she went the distances collecting two strikeouts and gave up only three walks.

Gartman continued her hot hitting streak to lead Loyd Star at the plate as she belted two home runs and also hit a pair of singles. Lexie Butler contributed a double and a single. Brooks Rushing and Thornton ripped a pair of singles. Julie Smith and Johnna Norman hit safely.

Ent-Clarke 18, Loyd Star 5 

Mackenzie Smith absorbed the setback in the decisive Game Three contest. She struck out one batter and did not allow a walk. McCullough (0K, 0BB) also pitched two innings inrelief.

Megan Norton powered the Lady Hornets at the play with a home run. Julie Smith provided a double and a single. Gartman ripped a pair of singles. Rushing had a single.
