Lady Cougars out hits BC

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars conclude their run through the regular season with a 8-3 win over the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats Tuesday night in fastpitch softball action.

The Lady Cougars (21-5, 5-3) will be in action Thursday as they host the opening round of the Class 4A state playoffs against either Florence or Magee.

The Lady Cats (11-9, 5-1) will also be in playoff action Thursday as they travel to Pelahatchie to take on the Lady Chiefs in the opening round of the Class 1A state playoffs, starting at 4 p.m.

Lawrence Co. 8, Bogue Chitto 3 

The Lady Cougars managed to secure an early 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning, before the Lady Cats of Bogue Chitto roared back in the top of the fourth inning scoring three runs to take a slim 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, Lawrence County would put together a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead at 8-3 and held on for the win.

Elizabeth Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cougars with four strikeouts and five walks. Jordan (0K, 0BB) pitched the final inning to collect the save.

Alana Nettles suffered the setback in the pitching circle for BC with one strikeout and no walks.

Terrah Nelson was the top hitter at the plate for the Lady Cats with two singles. Christian Black, Codi Leggett and Daley Roberts hit safely.

Tiera Collins powered Lawrence County’s offense with a home run and a triple. Maddux Kirkland and Elizabeth Smith contributed two singles apiece. Hitting safely Jamie Martin, Alexsundria Thomas, Lexie Johnson and Madison Hyde.
