John Wesley Smith

Funeral services for John Wesley Smith were Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, at 2 p.m. with burial following in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven. Bro. Kent Cochran officiated. Brookhaven Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and it continued Monday, Dec. 12, 2016  from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith, 87, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at Country Brook Living Center in Brookhaven. He was born on Aug. 22, 1929, in Lincoln County to Hiram and Maggie Dunnigan Smith. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church; served his country in the US Army; worked for many years at Stahl Urban Garment Factory; and enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, gardening and was known for his tomatoes and roses. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and brothers, Ray, Colon and Cletus Smith.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Lynda Gale Hart Smith; sons, Eddie Smith and wife Tammy, of Wesson, and Wendell Smith and wife Cammi, of Brookhaven; daughters, Vicky Smith Kyzar and husband Mark, of Brookhaven, and Cindy Smith Barlow and husband Bryan, of Newnan, Georgia; brother, Earl Smith of McCall Creek; sister, Earline Smith Terrell and husband Linton, of Edwards; grandchildren, Jenny Sadler and husband Jon, Adam Smith, April Scroggs and husband Jacob, Joshua Kyzar, Tyler Smith, Hailey Merritt and husband Daniel, Drake Barlow and Gavin Barlow; great-grandchildren, Caden Izard, Amarie Izard, Addison Sadler, Kirsten Scroggs, Emma Claire Kyzar, Declan Kyzar and Brayden Merritt; and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers are Tyler Smith, Bryan Barlow, Mark Kyzar, Drake Barlow, Caden Izard, Adam Smith and Jacob Scroggs.

Honorary pallbearers are Joshua Kyzar and Gavin Barlow.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Leanna Barfoot, the staff of Country Brook Living Center and the church family of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
