Franklin Co. defeats Wesson

MEADVILLE – The Franklin County Bulldogs bounced back to defeat the Wesson Cobras 6-4 Tuesday night in Region 7-3A baseball action to even the series at game apiece.

The Cobras (6-4, 3-1) will take the rest of the week off to enjoy their Easter break before resuming action Tuesday as they host the Jefferson County Tigers for a big division test. The game will be a varsity only contest beginning at 5 p.m.

The Bulldogs (7-5, 2-1) will also have Easter break off, before returning to action Tuesday as they host the Hazlehurst Indians. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.

Franklin Co. 6, Wesson 4 

After beating the Bulldogs the Monday night, the Cobras came out strong once again to begin the first inning as they scored two runs to take a early 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs managed to get their offense going in the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored four runs on Wesson to take a 4-2 lead.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Cobras rallied back to tied the contest at 4-all, but Franklin County bounced back to reclaimed the lead at 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning and added another run in the sixth inning to secure the win.

Dalivan Hunt was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs with four strikeouts and two walks.

Preston Middleton suffered the setback on the mound for the Cobras with one strikeout and three walks. Justin Boone (3K, 1BB) and Preston Adams (0K, 0BB) also pitched in relief.

Tyler McLeod was the top hitter at the plate for Wesson with three singles. Jimmie McQuage contributed a double. Hitting safely were Jeremy Smith and Preston Middleton.

Benard Selmon powered the Bulldogs’ offense with a triple, a double and a single. Ethan Verdin provided a double. Dematre Collins, Will Moffet and Thomas Stagle hit safely.
