Bassfield clobbers Enterprise

BASSFIELD – The Bassfield Yellow Jackets swept a pair of district 7-2A games from Enterprise Tuesday night.

In the varsity girls’ game, Bassfield outlasted Enterprise in a 49-46 nail-biter.

In varsity boys’ action, the Yellow Jackets from Bassfield hammered Enterprise 79-23.

Both teams resume district play Friday night as Bassfield travels to Loyd Star. Enterprise will host Amite County for two varsity games tipping off at 6 p.m.

Bassfield 49, Enterprise 46 

Aggressive play on defense that led to easy baskets was the key for Bassfield in protecting their home-floor with a 49-46 victory over Enterprise.

Enterprise (8-10, 0-3) fell behind early as they trailed 28-20 at the half. Coach Nations’ Lady Jackets were able to cut into the Bassfield lead as they trailed by only three points going into the fourth quarter.

The Lincoln County-based Lady Jackets trimmed the lead to one point with under 30 seconds remaining before Bassfield’s Malexus Loftin drained a jump shot to extend the Bassfield lead back to three points and secure the win.

Enterprise was led in scoring by Markie Case’s 10 points.

Malexus Loftin’s game-high 16 points paced Bassfield.

Bassfield 79, Enterprise 23 

In boys’ action, Bassfield stormed out of the gates quickly to command a 30-13 advantage after one quarter of play.

Things grew even drearier for Enterprise in the second quarter as Bassfield outscored the Yellow Jackets 17-0 and cruised to a 47-13 halftime lead.

Freshman Zach Hodges pumped in nine points for injury-plagued Enterprise (7-11, 0-3).

Jamal Peters poured in 18 points, and Racheem Booth scored 15 points in the win for Bassfield.
