Loyd Star Hornets blank Enterprise

The Loyd Star Hornets knocked off the Enterprise Jackets 11-0 to complete the series sweep in Region 7-2A baseball action Thursday night.

“I’m proud of my guys for coming out ready to play against Enterprise,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. “Caleb Yarborough pitched a solid game for us and we rallied around him. We were also able to capitalize on a few of Enterprise miscues. Overall, I’m happy for the big district win, but we cannot become satisfied. We must continue to work hard for the next two weeks of district action.”

The Hornets (9-5, 6-0) will resume action Tuesday as they travel to Liberty to take on the Amite County Trojans in a key Region 7-2A contest. The junior varsity game is schedule to begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6:30 p.m.

The Jackets (7-7, 4-2) will also be in action Tuesday as they visit their Lincoln County/Region rivals, the West Lincoln Bears (7-7, 5-1), for a huge division series. Junior varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

At the plate, Loyd Star hammered the Jackets on the scoreboard. The Hornets scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the top of the second inning, four runs in the third and two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to secured the win.

Josh Hardin absorbed the setback on the mound for Enterprise with four strikeouts and four walks. Jeffrey Daniels (1K, 2BB) and Hunter Richardson (2K, 0BB) also pitched in relief.
