Monday afternoon, Amite County Coroner Campbell “Cam” Sharp, confirmed an open death investigation is taking place in the Amite County area.

Sharp said the woman found dead has been identified as Brittany Gill of Lincoln County. He also said no manner of death has been determined. Also, he stressed the death has not been ruled as a murder or homicide as it is currently under investigation. Sharp said the body has been sent to Jackson, and the autopsy is currently underway.

The investigation is being handled by the Amite County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Tim Wroten said Monday he could not provide any further information.
