Local man dies in construction-zone accident
A Union Church man was struck and killed earlier this week on Highway 51 in Copiah County while working as a construction zone flagman.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol tells WAPT-TV that 39-year-old Garvin Barnes was handling traffic control Tuesday in a construction zone in front of the Byron Lumber Company when a Chevy Caprice and Ford Escape collided and hit Barnes.
Barnes, of the Union Church community in Brookhaven, was working for Dickerson and Bowen, subcontractors for the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Authorities say the wreck remains under investigation.
