Brookhaven retailers are getting ready for their annual Spring Fling featuring special promotions at each location and a variety of merchants that offer something for everyone.

Spring Fling starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and continues to 5 p.m. with 25 merchants participating. Participating businesses will have signs out and will be offering door prizes, drawings for discounts and gifts.

Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Marketing Director Kay Burton said the possibilities will vary from business to business.

“It’s a good chance to take advantage of sales and prizes and enjoy Brookhaven’s scenic downtown,” Burton said.

“Our retailers do such a great job at buying unique merchandise at market,” Burton said, “and offering something different. And, we have such a pretty city for people to come to, take a break from the norm, with nice places to eat and visit.

“I think it says a lot about our town that we have shoppers who visit us from all over, from Louisiana to Jackson. Each shop is unique, and you won’t find things on racks that are duplicated all over town, either. Our retailers go to market and create a unique collection of merchandise. That is especially so for fashion and accessories. ”

But, Burton said the retail environment is not just clothing and shoes.

“If someone is looking for a unique gift item for a bride, and Mother’s Day is coming up, too, if they need something for the home or an outdoors excursion, the town has it,” she said. “It’s going to be a fun day,” she said. “It’s always good to save, but it’s even better to support local businesses. When you support local business, you are doing something for your community.”

Burton said the next big event for retailers will be the Girl’s Night Out, sponsored by the chamber and others. The night is planned for Thursday, June 26.

“This event has been a favorite since we started it about five years ago,” she said. “We expect this year’s Night Out to be bigger and better than ever.”
