Brookhaven wins Loyd Star Invitational

The Brookhaven High Panthers won the Loyd Star Invitational Powerlifting meet last weekend. Six Panther lifters placed first in their weight classes, five placed second, and three placed third.

Placing in first place were Jon Mark Mathis in the 165 class with a total of 885 pounds, Kenneth Dixon in the 181 class with a total of 960 pounds, Jay Trunner in the 220 class with a total of 1,160 pounds, Stephen Springfield in the 242 class with a total of 1,380 pounds, Jared Dillon in the 275 class with a total of 1,285 pounds and Tristan Peavey in the 308 weight class with a total of 1,150 pounds.

In second place was Chris Woodard in the 114 weight class with a total of 385 pounds, Tra Newton in the 148 class with a total of 760 pounds, Laderrick Parker in 165 class with a total of 835 pounds, Darius O’Quinn in the 252 class with a total of 1,200 pounds and Kieran Williams in the 275 class with a total of 1,100 pounds.

Coming in third place were Samari Stewart in 114 weight class with a total of 355 pounds, Davion McCoy in the 242 class with a total of 1,160 pounds and Logan Smith in 275 class with a total of 1,050 pounds.

Springfield had the highest squat 535 and deadlift of 550. McCoy had the highest bench of 310.

“Our next meet is Jan 30th at Pearl,” said Ole Brook Powerlifting coach Russ Britt. “We are really proud of all the guys and how they performed this Saturday. Our guys have worked really hard to get where they are. Coach Bland and myself really appreciate their effort in the weight room.”

Britt also expressed gratitude about how powerlifting has become a county-wide event.

“It was great for our whole team to get to participate in this meet. I’d like to thank Coach Adam Cook of Loyd Star for hosting the meet, our booster club, and our AD.”
