New Art Guild lays plans for events, next meeting
In anticipation of a year filled with fine art-related events, members and potential members of the newly formed Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild, or BRAG, began developing an agenda for the coming year at Thursday afternoon’s BRAG meeting at Lemanedi Art Gallery downtown.
Some of the suggestions for events included a quilt-making presentation in January, an art show limited to guild members in August and a “vetted” art show sometime in the spring.
An art walk in downtown Brookhaven was discussed as a potential guild event, as were a children’s art show and an art show limited to Lincoln County residents. The guild plans to create a yearbook for members sometime in the future.
Earlier in the week, organizers of the guild made the formation of BRAG official. At Thursday’s meeting, the group elected official board members. The collective of artists and art lovers elected Sue Minter as president, Rosemary Leggett as vice president, Caroline Kluge as secretary/treasurer, Dixie Simmons as activities chairman and Nancy Hank-Myers as publicity chairman of the guild.
Participants and newly-elected officers of the guild decided to have their first official membership meeting on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 5:15 p.m.
Guild membership will span a year, starting in January and ending in December. The guild plans to meet monthly and is determined to have events that correspond to their monthly meeting times.
One of the key goals of the guild includes “getting as much of the community involved as possible,” said Minter.
