There have been changes recently in some principals’ positions in the Brookhaven School District.

Principal LaRenda Janee’ Harrison, who was serving as principal at Brookhaven Elementary School, has been moved to the principal’s position at Mullins.

Assistant principal at Brookhaven Elementary, Shelley Rilley, will step into the principal’s position there until it is filled later in the year.

Brookhaven Superintendent of Education Dr. Ben Cox made the decision in the middle of the school year, saying it was important to the district.

“That decision was made in order to move the district forward,” Cox said.

An opening had come up earlier in the school year at the Brookhaven Technical Center when director Jackie Martin accepted a position at Copiah-Lincoln Community as Career, Technical and Workforce Education Dean.

Susan Chapman served as interim director until Trevor Brister, formerly the principal at Mullins, was chosen to run the center.

Cox said Brister was a good fit for the center. And, he felt Harrison would be effective as a leader at the alternative school.

Cox will get board approval in April to advertise for the BES position in April and May.
