BA drops squeaker to Hartfield

The Brookhaven academy Cougars traveled out Highway 25 in Flowood to take on the Hartfield Hawks in varsity baseball action Saturday afternoon. A bottom of the seventh inning rally by the Hawks proved to be the deciding factor as they squeaked out a 4-3 victory over the Cougars.

Carrying a 3-0 lead into the final at-bat for Hartfield, the Cougars were poised to pick up the win behind the pitching of senior Zach Dickerson. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Hawks were able to string together some timely hits culminated by a bases loaded double from Brian Holanday that plated 2 runs to seal the win.

A three-hit outing from Alex Smith lead the Cougars offensive output. JP Jackson, Zach Dickerson, John Ethan Coleman each added support with a single apiece.

Dickerson absorbed the loss for the Cougars giving up only 2 hits and striking out seven in his afternoon of work. Jace Tucker picked up the win for Hartfield.

In Junior Varsity action,  the BA Cougars sailed to a 7-0 shutout victory over the home standing Hartfield JV Hawks.

Two hits each from Carter Culbertson, Madison Smith and Dillon Burt paced the Cougar 9-hit attack. Fisher Warren, Levi Smith and Taylor Freeny added support with a single apiece.

Freeny picked up the victory on the mound for BA striking out four in two innings of work. Warren preserved the win in relief of Freeny also striking out four in the final three frames.

Brandon Gardner and Drew Willis had the lone hits for the Hawks. Gardner suffered the pitching loss for Hartfield.
