Power outage postpones 7-1A Tournament

BOGUE CHITTO – Thursday’s strong thunderstorm postponed the Region 7-1A basketball tournament due to a power outage at Bogue Chitto gymnasium.

After a two-hour delay, Bogue Chitto’s principle Mickey Myers made the call after talking to Entergy power company officials. The power went out around 6 p.m., after a tree fell on the power lines north of Bogue Chitto high school.

The tournament will resume where it left off today as Hinds AHS Bulldogs were ahead 69-31 with 5:12 left in third quarter over the Pelahatchie Chiefs. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats will take on the Pelahatchie Lady Chiefs at 6 and the Bobcats will battle St. Aloysius at 7:30 p.m.

Since the postponement of Thursday games, the consolation and championship games will be played Saturday. Times are not determined at press time.

In the early girls’ game Thursday, the Hinds AHS Lady Bulldogs crushed the Natchez Cathedral Lady Wave 56-31.

Erica Harris was the top scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with 24 points. Breannah McCullah chipped in 13 points and Octavia Barnes had 10 points.

Elizabeth Smith powered the Lady Green Wave with 10 points. Grayson Bryant scored 7 points.
