JACKSON – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats Power lifting team lifted their way into third place in the Class 1A state championship race last Saturday.

The Bobcats came to Jackson with seven lifters and were able to mustard up twenty-three team points. Dakota McGary was the only winner to claim gold for the Bobcats.

“I am proud of my kids’ efforts. Third place was not our goal, but after replacing six from last year championship team, I was pleased with our season,” said Bogue Chitto head power lifting coach Chad Norton. “We extended our region and south state championships to six straight years. I would like to thank everyone that helped make our season a successful one. Now it’s back to the weight room so we can continue to build for next year.”

JOSH RICHARDSON

In the 114-pound weight class the Bobcats had two lifters that finished in third place and a sixth place. Both lifters had three successful lifts on the squat section.

Josh Richardson came in third place with a total weight of 610 pounds. Richardson got his first squat in for 185 pounds. He was also successful on second attempt of 225 pounds. On Richardson final attempt on squat, he was able to lift 240 pounds.

In bench press, Richardson lifted 90 pounds for his first attempt but failed on a second attempt. Richardson’s was able to get his third attempt in of 110 pounds.

In dead lift, Richardson started off with 210 pounds. He was successful on his second attempt of 210 pounds but was not able to get the third lift in of 305 pounds.

Michael Rayborn placed sixth place with a total weight of 500 pounds. Rayborn was successful on all three lifts on squat. He ended with a lift of 170 pounds. His bench press was almost a mirror of Richardson. He was able to get 90 pounds but was unsuccessful with his second lift. He was able to get his third lift of 110 pounds on bench press.

Rayborn completed three successful dead lifts of 115, 210, and 220 pounds.

In the 123-pound weight class, the Bobcats had two lifters that got a first place and a fourth place. Both lifters had three successful lifts on squat. Dakota McGary came in first with a total weight of 710 pounds. McGary was successful on all three lifts in squat of 185, 215 and 230.

On bench, McGary completed three successful lifts of 95, 115 and 125 pounds. He also had three successful lifts on deadlift of 305, 345 and 355 pounds.

Sean Lee Matthews came in fourth with a total weight of 585 pounds. His three lifts of squat were 165, 190 and 210 pounds. Matthews was successful on two of three lifts in bench press lifting 95 and 115 pounds in his first two lifts, but he was not able to get in his last attempt of 120 pounds.

In dead lift, Matthews completed his first and second lift attempts but was unsuccessful on his third attempt.

KOBE ROBERTS

In the 148-pound weight class, the Bobcats had one lifter, Kobe Roberts, to lift. Roberts captured a second place with a total of 990 pounds.

Roberts completed two of his squat attempts of 325 and 385 pounds, but failed on his third attempt of 395 pounds.

In bench press, Kobe Roberts successfully lifted his first and third attempts of 155 and 185 pounds but was unable to get his second lift in. On dead lift, Roberts lifted 360 and 420 pounds but unable to lift 470 pounds on his third attempt.

DEVIN MCEWEN

In the 220-pound weight class the Bobcats had one lifter, Devin McEwen, to lift. McEwen finished in third place with a total weight of 1,155 pounds.

McEwen successfully lifted 405 and 455 pounds in squat, but was unsuccessful on his third attempt of 485 pounds.

In bench press, McEwen’s lifted 215 and 240 pounds, but he was unsuccessful on his third attempt of 275 pounds. In the dead lift exercise, he completed a lift of 450 pounds but failed to lift 520 and 540 in the final two lifts.

DEVARIS BULLOCK

In the super heavy weight class, the Bobcats had Devaris Bullock lifting. Bullock came in third place with a total of 1,150 pounds.

Devaris was successful on all three squat attempts of 330, 400 and 420 pounds. In bench press exercise, Devaris completed three successful lifts of 215, 245 and 255 pounds. In dead lift, he also completed three successful lifts of 405, 460 and 475 pounds.

Pelahatchie ended up winning the state championship after securing 39 points. Coffeeville finished with 33 total points to clinch second place, while the Bobcats took third place with a total of 23 points.
