Lady Cats dominate Franklin Co.

Bulldogs edge Bobcats

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats were victorious over the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 61-34 Friday night in a non-district contest at the Bobcat Palace.

In boys’ action, the Franklin County Bulldogs escaped with a narrow 52-48 win over the Bobcats.

Franklin County continues action Tuesday as it hosts Port Gibson to begin Region 7-3A competition. The varsity girls will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.

Bogue Chitto will resume action Friday as the Bobcats host the Salem Wildcats to begin Region 7-1A action. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Cats dominated the Lady Bulldogs in the first half, securing a commanding 31-16 lead.

In the second half, the Lady Cats overpowered the Lady Bulldogs with a 30-18 explosion to end the final two quarters.

Zariah Matthews sparked the Lady Cats with a game-high 18 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Taneshia May fueled the flames with 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Shay Jefferson contributed 10 points, two assists and two steals. Terrah Nelson provided seven points and had five rebounds. Christian Black finished with six points and was the leader on the boards with nine rebounds. Lineka Newson scored four points and had two steals. Karlie Williams had three points, two assists and two steals.

Offensively for Franklin County, Sierra Bethley led with 11 points. Tradata Norman chipped in with eight points. Autumn Covington scored six points. Jasmine Treadway netted four points. Shamiah Amos had two points. Demitrice Williams added one point.

The Bobcats and Bulldogs fought in a close contest, and Franklin County took over the lead late in the second quarter to carry a 32-24 score into halftime.

In the second half, the Bobcats outscored the Bulldogs 24-20, but could not overcome Franklin County’s lead.

“Our guys played a heck of a ballgame,” said BC coach Mark Pitts. “We had a few players get into foul trouble early in the game, but our young players stepped up and played hard. Overall I am very proud of our guys in their fight until the very end.”

Tyler Brumfield powered the Bobcats with 15 points. Henry Thomas contributed 13 points. Brandon Blackwell netted seven points. Zack Upkins scored six points. D.J. Nunnery had five points. Damarcus Godbolt added two points.

Tony Gibbs directed the Bulldogs with a game-high 18 points. Cameron Young chipped in with nine points. Jalen Dogan provided eight points. Kel Covington scored six points. Dominique White had five points. Dalivan Hunt finished with three points. Gerryon Bell had two points. Ryan Johnson added one point.
