Janas pitches M-Braves to victory

PEARL — Stephen Janas held the Biloxi Shuckers to just one hit and two walks through six innings to lead the Mississippi Braves to a 3-0 victory Monday evening at Trustmark Park. The series finale and final regular-season home game is slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Pensacola and Jackson were still under way at the time of publication. The M-Braves will remain at least a half game back in the South Division standings. If Pensacola falls to the Generals, then the Braves will take a half game lead in the standings.

Janas (2-7) struck out three batters and picked up the win. Mississippi (35-28, 68-63) scored three runs on six hits. Biloxi (32-31, 75-55) managed just four hits. Ryne Harper worked two scoreless innings in relief, giving up just two hits. Tyler Jones (S, 16) came on in the ninth to pick up the save.

The Braves scored all runs in the same frame. Janas singled and Emerson Landoni was hit by a pitch to start the third. Mycal Jones then delivered a two-run double to left field, putting the M-Braves out front 2-0. He stole third and scored on a KD Kang base hit to right.

Josh Hader (1-3) worked seven innings for the Shuckers. He allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out eight batters. Martin Virmontes worked a perfect eighth.

In the final game of the regular season at Trustmark Park, the M-Braves send right-hander Greg Ross (7-9, 4.10) to the hill against Shuckers righty Tyler Wagner (11-5, 2.13). First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.
