Bank account set up to assist Dickey, Richardson families

The Bank of Brookhaven has established a bank account to assist the families of Jevonta Dickey and Shaquan Richardson with funeral expenses and for any other needs they may have.

“This is a way for us to wrap our arms around the families and let them know we love them,” said Shannon Aker with the Bank of Brookhaven. “Nobody plans to have a funeral for their 18-year-old child.”

Dickey and Richardson were killed Tuesday night by an alleged intoxicated driver, and community members have been coming together to help in any way they can. Aker said the school has had several people who want to help already donating money. Aker added that he was presented with the idea of establishing a bank account by local parents.

“Ole Brook is one big family, and we love each other,” said Amy Jackson, one of the parents who established the account.

She said collecting money was the only thing the group could think of doing to help.

Bank officials, parents and community members worked together to establish the account.

“It was a big group effort,” said Jackson.

The Bank of Brookhaven tellers are aware of the account. There is one account, and it is in the name of the mothers of Dickey and Richardson.

Aker said money can be donated at BHS, at the Bank of Brookhaven or at tonight’s homecoming game.
