Cobras beat St. Joe in warmup for playoffs

WESSON – The Wesson Cobras ended their regular season on a great note as they defeated the Madison St. Joseph Bruins 6-3 Saturday afternoon in baseball action.
The Cobras celebrated Seniors Day at Wesson as they recognized Jace Alexander, Austin Crow, and Conner Lowery before the game at the last home game of regular season.
Wesson is ranked No. 1 in District 3A Region 7 and will begin first round playoffs this week.

The Wesson High School Cobras beat the St. Joseph Bruins Saturday afternoon in Wesson. The Cobras overcame a sluggish start to finish the Bruins off with a 6-3 victory.
Cobras’ pitcher, Tyler McLeod, averaged four strikeouts, five walks and fielded one out. McLeod also hit well with three singles averaging one RBI.
First at bat Jace Alexander set the tone for the game with a triple and also hit a single. Alexander was the top fielder with four outs including a double play during the fourth inning when he tagged the runner at second and threw to first base for the double play.
Wesson also got hits from Justin Boone – double and Preston Middleton – single.
Jeremy Smith was the closeout pitcher in the top of the seventh and got one strikeout.
Bruins’ pitcher, Thomas Benson, averaged two strikeouts and one walk through the third inning. He was replaced by Eric Diamond in the fifth who had one strike out and three walks. Close out pitcher, Michael Buck, had two strikeouts and two walks.
Top hitters for the Bulldogs were Paco Bello- 2 singles and John David Topik- single. Paco Bello, short stop, was the Bruins’ top fielder with five outs.
