The West Lincoln Lady Bears enjoyed Senior Night Tuesday as they defeated the Enterprise Lady Jackets 16-6 to take second place in Region 7-2A softball action.

Softball and baseball parents, families and friends had a big day at the ballparks as West Lincoln honored their seniors. On the softball field, seniors Heather Moak, Destiny Allen, Bentley Sills and Karley Smith were recognized with their parents around the pitcher’s mound and received several gifts.

“This was a good win for our seniors,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “We came out hitting the ball, but went cold as the game continued. Enterprise did a good job fighting back in the fifth inning. Overall, I was proud of the girls’ effort and securing second place in our region race.”

The Lady Bears (14-4, 6-2) travel to Wesson today to battle the Wesson Lady Cobras. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.

The Lady Jackets (6-12, 3-3) will also be in action today as they drive across Lincoln County again to tangle with the Loyd Star Lady Hornets. Junior varsity action starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

West Lincoln 16, Enterprise 6 

The Lady Bears came out strong and quickly jumped on the Lady Jackets in the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead.

Enterprise worked hard to answer West Lincoln’s challenge in the top of the second and third innings but failed to push across some runs when they had runners on base.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Bears’ offense exploded and they hammered Enterprise with a 10-run inning to increase their lead to 12-0.

The Lady Jackets, refusing to give up, managed to fight their way back into the contest in the fifth inning as they broke up West Lincoln’s bid for a shutout with a six-run jolt to cut down the Lady Bears’ lead to 12-6.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, West Lincoln bounced back and ended the contest on a 10-run mercy rule as they pushed across four runs to claim the win.

Micah Redd was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bears with three strikeouts and four walks.

Carlee Nations absorbed the setback for the Lady Jackets with one strikeout and four walks. Kalyn Chemin (3K, 0BB) also saw some action in relief.

Hanna Moak powered West Lincoln’s offense with a triple, a double and a single. Layton Sills and Bentley Sills contributed two singles. Breanna Fauver ripped a triple. Malori Hall and Heather Moak provided a double apiece. Hitting safely were Peyton White and Alli Mullins.

Jana Nations and Skyler Dahlin were the top hitters for Enterprise with a pair of singles each. Karlee Burgess, Kinsey Dahlin and Carlee Nations hit safely.

“We knew coming in that West Lincoln has a good team,” said Enterprise coach Ashley Jones. “My girls played hard and did great job fighting back into the contest. We just failed to make the routine plays we needed to stay in the game.”

In junior varsity action,  West Lincoln exterminated Enterprise 5-1.

Peyton White (2K, 0BB) and McKenzie Pyles (3K, 0BB) combined together to help West Lincoln collect the win.

Kalyn Chemin (3K, 1BB) and Haley Nations (3K, 1BB) pitched for the Lady Jackets.

Makennah Redd directed the Lady Bears at the plate with a triple and a double. Addie Springs had a triple. Hitting safely were Lexis Leggett, Anna Brooke Davis and Hanna Moak.

Brooke Foster was the top slugger for Enterprise with two singles.
