DECATUR – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves and the East Central Lady Warriors put on a show of offensive play combining for 49 hits on the day. Co-Lin took the opener 14-3 while the Lady Warriors rallied to take the nightcap 11-4.

Lady Wolves 14, Lady Warriors 3 

The Lady Wolves jumped out to an early 8-2 lead after two innings. Missy Romero and Kacie Berry provided RBI singles in the first inning to give Co-Lin a 2-0 in the first inning. They added six more runs in top of the second inning sparked by a two-run double by Breanna McKenzie, an RBI single by Kayla Craft, an RBI single by Beth Fortenbery, and a passed ball.

“We hit extremely well in game one,” said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. “The whole lineup contributed. Brooke threw a great game and limited their offense. I was really proud of our discipline at the plate.”

Both teams combined for 27 hits in the game.

The Lady Wolves pounded out 17 hits against East Central pitching. Berry went 3-for-3 in the game with three singles and two RBIs. Brooke Laigst had a double and home run for two RBIs, two walks and scored three runs. Fortenbery had a double and a single for three RBIs. McKenzie added a double and a single for two RBIs. Craft went 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of singles and one RBI. Romero (1 RBI) and Kristen Byrd added a pair of singles apiece. Adding support with a single was Savannah Johnston.

Brooke Gonzales (14-7) got the win for the Lady Wolves. She scattered three runs, 10 hits, struck out one and walked runs in the six-inning game.

Makayla Kelly took the loss for East Central. She allowed seven runs in five innings, walked one and struck out none. Kendra Wilson tossed an inning allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and walked three.

Morgan Porter led the Lady Warriors at the plate by with three singles. Amber McBroom doubled and singled. Hayley Stephens added a pair of singles. Karoline Holsonback doubled and Ty Buckley homered. Kaylin Hopkins added a single.

Lady Warriors 11, Lady Wolves 4 

Hot hitting by both teams continued in game two as the teams combined for 22 hits. The Lady Wolves out hit East Central 12 to 10.

In the top of the first, Co-Lin grabbed the early 1-0 lead. Breanna McKenzie and Missy Romero had back-to-back singles that plated Brooke Laigast.

The Lady Wolves added another run in the top of the second inning on McKenzie’s RBI single.

East Central responded to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second on a three run home run by Amber McBroom.

With the game tied at 4-4 and the bases loaded with one out in the fifth inning, starter Rheagan Welch was relieved by southpaw Payton Sheffield. Sheffield was able to retire the next two batters to get out of the jam.

The Lady Warriors took advantage on Lady Wolves miscues to plate seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

“We came unraveled in the sixth,” said Kent. “Our defense let us down on a dropped third strike, a blown call on a rundown and some miscommunication. We should have gotten out of the inning with no runs allowed. Payton didn’t deserve to get the loss.”

Welch tossed 4.1 innings gave up four runs on five hits, walked five and struck out three. Sheffield suffered the loss allowing no earned runs, scattered four hits, walked two and struck out two. Brooke Gonzales pitched .1 inning and allowed one hit.

Kendra Wilson recorded the win for the Lady Warriors allowing three runs over 6.2 innings striking out five, walking one and giving up 10 hits.

Romero continued to swing a hot bat for the Lady Wolves going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Savannah Johnston (1 RBI), McKnezie (2 RBIs), and Kacie Berry had a pair of singles apiece. Laigast doubled. Adding support with a single apiece were Fortenbery and Adrienne Wallace.

At the plate for East Central, Lindsey Beard and Karoline Holsonback doubled and singled for two RBIs each. Amber McBroom and Kaylin Hopkins added a pair of singles. Morgan Porter tripled. Adding support with a single was Mallory Turner.

Co-Lin hosts Pearl River on Monday for a South Division doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
