Lady Cobra crush West Marion

WESSON- The Wesson Lady Cobras (8-2-1) kicked off their first district game with a win against the West Marion Lady Trojans (2-5) Tuesday night. The Lady Cobras dominated the scoreboard with a 12-2 win.

The Lady Cobras will host Franklin County Thursday, March 27, at the Wesson Softball Field. JV softball starts at 5 p.m. and varsity softball play starts at 6 p.m.

The Lady Cobras struck hard against the Lady Trojans Tuesday night in a 12-2 win. Wesson took advantage of several errors by the Lady Trojans to run the bases and rack up runs.

Wesson coach, Jackie Johnson, reflected on the win stating, “This was a good first district win. We had some decent hits but there were some errors made that need to be corrected.”

Lady Cobras’ pitcher, Carrie McSweyn, had three strikeouts and three walks.

McSweyn also hit one single and fielded 5 outs. Wesson’s top batter was Abby Meredith who averaged 4 singles for four at bats. Brooke Jones also was a top hitter with two doubles that brought in 3 runs. Harmoni Ashley hit a single and double which averaged 1 RBI.

Wesson also got hits from the following: Sarah Robinson – single (RBI-1), and Bailey Middleton – single.Kayla Britt and Bailey Middleton fielded 3 outs each against the Lady Trojans.

Lady Flashes’ pitcher, Lori Robertson, pitched 2 strike out and 4 walks. Robertson hit a single and double while at bat. Other West Marion’s hitters were Katherine Johnson (RBI-2) and Holly Miller.

In junior varsity action, The Lady Cobras beat the Lady Trojans to gain a 11-3 win.

Pitcher Amber Brinson threw four strikeouts and only walked two. Hailey Chassion closed out the game with one strikeout. Top hitter for Wesson was Melody Ashley who pelted out a triple that brought two runners home. Ashley also fielded a double play in the first inning.
