Naomi Ruth Furr Kesner

Funeral services for Naomi Ruth Furr Kesner of Murfreesboro, Tenn., are 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Southeast Baptist Church with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville. Brother Joe Vinson will be officiating. Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Saturday, March 8, 2014, one hour prior to service time.

Mrs. Kesner, 94, died March 3, 2014, in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

A native of Indiana, she and her husband moved to Brookhaven in 1940 as newlyweds. Their three children were born in Brookhaven, and the family made their home there until they moved to Shelbyville, Tenn., in 1957. In 1973, Jim and Naomi returned to Brookhaven, staying there until 2010, when they moved to Murfreesboro.

Naomi was very active in church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Girls Auxiliary leader, Women’s Missionary Union leader, and choir member for over 50 years. She used her love of music to lead singing for senior groups in her church and in the community. One of her ministries was leading singing for residents of Brook Manor nursing home for over 20 years. Naomi and Jim enjoyed traveling and led more than 65 trips for seniors. Naomi was a member of the Lioness Club, Garden Club, Eastern Star, DAR, Peripatetic Club and was a Den mother for Cub Scouts.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 69 years, James William “Jim” Kesner, in 2010.

A beloved wife, mother and woman of faith, she is survived by two sons, James Robert Kesner and wife, Faye, of Fairborn, Ohio, John William Kesner and wife, Rita, of Severna Park, Md.; a daughter, Naomi Joyce Adams, of Murfreesboro; a brother, James Richard Furr and wife, Donna, of LaCrosse, Wis.; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
