Behind a strong pitching performance from senior right-hander Bailey Warren, the Brookhaven Academy Cougars picked up their first win of the young season with a 6 – 0 shutout of the Silliman Institute Wildcats.

Warren held Silliman at bay allowing only four hits and striking out seven in his evening of work.

BA Head Coach Casey Edwards commented following the game, “Bailey (Warren) pitched us a heck of a game tonight. Our defense was flawless and that always helps put up 0’s.” Edwards concluded, “I thought we could have taken some better approaches at the plate, but all in all it was a great team win for us tonight.”

Heath Hickman led the Cougars offensive attack going 2 for 2 at the plate with 3 RBI’s. Steven Williams also hit safely twice for BA. Also adding support at the plate with a hit each were JP Jackson, Landon Nettles, Alex Smith, Zach Dickerson and Warren.

In junior varsity action,  Silliman southpaw Jace Delee handcuffed the BA Cougars with a no-hit pitching performance and squeaked out a 3-2 victory avenging a defeat at the hands of BA’s JV squad last week. Delee struck out four and walked three. Taylor Freeny absorbed the loss for BA striking out two in four innings of work.
