Banks recognized as MACJC Player of the Week

WESSON – For the second time this season, Copiah-Lincoln freshman guard Claresa Banks has been named MACJC Player of the Week. Banks has been honored for all games played from Feb. 10-15. For the week Banks averaged 21 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals, three assists and three blocks per game in leading the Lady Wolves to a 2-0 record.
The Jackson native scored 23 points, shooting 7-for-12 from the floor and pulled down three rebounds in Co-Lin’s 75-64 victory over Meridian. Banks, a product of Forest Hill High School, shot 5-for-8 from the 3-point line as the Lady Wolves avenged a loss at Meridian on Jan. 16. She also dished out four assists, made five steals and blocked two shots.
Banks, averaging a team leading 17 points per game, ended the week with one of her biggest nights of the season, this one in a 73-66 Co-Lin victory over East Central. She scored 19 points and pulled down 22 rebounds, including eight offensive rebounds, in a must win game for Co-Lin’s post-season hopes. Banks rallied the Lady Wolves from a five-point halftime deficit and made four steals and four blocks in 38 minutes of action.
The 5-foot-9 guard leads the team in averages for scoring, rebounds, steals and blocks per game. Banks averages six rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. She has posted double figure scoring in 19 of 22 games in her Co-Lin career.
Banks, the Lady Wolves, and the Co-Lin men wrap up the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 20, as they travel to take on the Pearl River Wildcats. The women tip off at 5 p.m. with the men’s game to follow. Listen live at colinathletics.com or on WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.
