Lady Jackets win; Enterprise boys lose thriller

MIZE – The Enterprise Yellow Jackets split with the Mize Bulldogs Friday night on the hardwood as the regular season came to an end for both teams.
In the varsity girls’ game, the Lady Jackets knocked off the Lady Bulldogs from Mize 57-38.
In the boys’ contest, Mize edged Enterprise 58-56.
Enterprise will prepare for next Tuesday night as they travel to Bassfield for the opening night of the District 7-2A Tournament. The sixth-seeded Lady Jackets will tip off the night on Tuesday as they battle the East Marion Lady Eagles starting at 4 p.m. The Enterprise boys will close the night as they draw third seeded Bassfield with tip-off slated for 8:30 pm.
Enterprise 57, Mize 38
The winless Mize Lady Bulldogs gave Enterprise all they could handle for three and half quarters. The Lady Yellow Jackets responded in the second half as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs 35-15 to secure a 57-38 victory.
Enterprise (12-16, 2-8), trailed for most of the first half as Mize carried a 23-22 lead going into halftime. In the second half, Enterprise used their pressure defense to force the Lady Bulldogs into several turnovers that aided the Lady Jackets in pulling away for the win.
The Lady Jackets were led by Hannah Kirtfield’s 14 points and eight rebounds. Kristin Jergins added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Jackets. Destiny Blackwell fired in 10 points for Mize in the loss.
Mize 58, Enterprise 56
The Mize Bulldogs held off a late Enterprise rally Friday night as they defeated the Yellow Jackets 58-56.
Rarely used senior Nathan Hatten set the tone early for the Bulldogs as he drained a three-pointer in the opening seconds to give the Bulldogs an early 3-0 lead on senior night.
Enterprise (8-20, 0-10) struggled to find the bottom of the net in the first half as Mize held a 21-9 advantage at halftime. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 40-27 after three quarters of action. The Yellow Jackets awoke in the fourth quarter and exploded for 31 points.
The rally was too little too late as the Bulldogs scored in crucial moments at the end to hold on in the final seconds.
John Gray netted 27 points to lead Enterprise in scoring. Dwayne Pendleton added 11 points for the Jackets in the loss. Wardalius Ducksworth paced Mize in scoring with 14 points.
In JV boys’ action, Enterprise cruised past Mize 34-25. Patrick Scott led the Yellow Jacket attack with 14 points. Jontavious Smith’s seven points and Chris Kennedy’s four points added to the Enterprise win. Malcolm Nixon’s scored five points in the loss for the Bulldogs.
