Funeral services for Betty Stowers of Jayess are 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb with burial in Hollywood Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 5 until 8 p.m. and Tuesday 10 a.m. until the start of service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stowers, 86, died Feb. 15, 2014, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. She was born June 11, 1927, to Charles O’Neal Zimmerman and Bertha Fishburn Zimmerman.

She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Lawrence County. She loved people, especially children and babies. She also loved to travel and had a passion for cleaning.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Vesper Stowers; son, Rexford Van Stowers; seven brothers; and five sisters.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and David Lawrence of Jayess and Brenda and David Moore of Athens, Ala.; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Shirley Zimmerman of Sumner, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Timothy David Lawrence and Laura of Monticello, Ark., Bradley Van Lawrence and Jennipher of Plattsburg, Mo., Wendy Kremer of Meridianville, Ala., Ronnie Humphrey II and Marcia of Madison, Ala., Jacin Humphrey and Mandy of Irondale, Ala., Allison Stowers Riddle and Shannon of Huntsville, Ala. and Alicia Stowers Castellano and Doug of Hopemills, N.C.; a dear friend, Dean Crittenden; many nieces, nephews and friends; and also those who called her Mom and Nannie who were not related.

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Mrs. Stowers’s love of children.
