Hazlehurst bags three 7-3A honors

The three-time defending South State 3A Champion Hazlehurst Indians captured three huge honors in the selection of the All-Region 7-3A Football Team.
Hazlehurst quarterback Jarvis Warner was named the Offensive Player of the Year on the 2013 All-Region 7-3A team. Lineman Johnkil Skipper received honors as the Defensive Player of the Year. Hazlehurst was also selected as the Coaching Staff of the Year.
In the other recognitions, Wilkinson County senior quarterback Devin Voorhies was chosen as the Most Valuable Player in Region 7-3A.
Crystal Springs’ sophomore athlete Jeriko Morris was recognized as the Special Teams Player of the Year.
The coaches from the Region 7-3A classification gathered together and voted on the players selected.
Hazlehurst Indians joining Warner and Skipper on the all-region first team selection are D’Alex Rockingham, Dycelious Reese, Dedric Reese, John Bridges, Toriaun Samuels, Jarvarious Tanner and Russell Virgil.
Representing Franklin County with first team honors were Chris Robinson, Darin Wiley, Demarius Tyler, Conner Quinn, Jerry Hannon and Chris O’Quinn.
In Wesson’s first year in Region 7-3A, Tyler Christmas, Otis Smith and Kendrick Brown received first team honors.
Second Team all-region honors went to Hazlehurst’s Ladarrious Williams, Cyrus Goodwin and Deante Mitchell.
Franklin County’s second team honors went to Troy Norman, Danzel Allen, Deanthony King and Austin Wallace.
For Wesson, second team honors went to Blake Burns, Farrod Green and Javoris Smith.
On the honorable mention list were Malik Brown, Michael Miller, Darius Washington and Damarion Wilson were chosen for Hazlehurst. On Franklin County, Michael White, Trinity Coleman, Bernard Selman, Al Virger, James Thomas and Chris Boss. On Wesson, Dartavious Dixon, Michael Hauer, Timothy Craft and Nick Lewis.
The Hazlehurst Indians, coached by Randall Montgomery, went 14-2 on the season and won the Region 7-3A crown.
The Franklin County Bulldogs, coached by Chris Calcote, finished third in the region race and advanced to the Class 3A state playoffs.
The Wesson Cobras, coached by Ronald Greer, finished in fifth place in their first year as members of the Class 7-3A race.
