Superintendent Terry Brister said at Monday’s Lincoln County School Board meeting that he has seen a good start to the school year and his teachers are getting good feedback from the recent publication of test scores and school accountability grades.

“We had a smooth start for school this year,” Brister said. “Not much going on outside of academics and athletics, and we are getting a lot of positive feedback and positive reinforcement from the parents. The teachers are loving that. They deserve it after all the hard work they’ve done.”

Monday’s meeting also went very smoothly, with little discussion by board members as they looked over agenda items.

Board members approved the following:

• A request for family medical leave.

• Private contracts for 2013-14.

• The acceptance of a check from the football booster club at Bogue Chitto Attendance Center.

• The removal of a substitute teacher from the list at West Lincoln Attendance Center.

• The advertisement of a “Child Find Notice” in the Daily Leader for the 2013-14 school year. The notice is to find kids with special needs and get them enrolled in school.

• The request from curriculum coordinator Richelle Ratcliff to advertise the “Children’s First Report Card.”

• Permission for the West Lincoln Robotics team to accept donations from Walmart.

• Student releases and transfers for 2013-14.

• The disposal of fixed assets.

• Online board policies.

• Educator’s legal liability policy.

• Finalized the residential lease for Danny Thompson on 16th Section land after Thompson paid the land taxes.

The board set a special meeting to be held Monday, Oct. 14, for the approval of additional policies. The next regular scheduled board meeting is Monday, Oct. 21, in the Lincoln County Schools’ district office.
