Morning fire claims home

An early-morning fireMonday claimed the home of a Brookhaven family, officialssaid.
At 3:28 a.m. Monday, Tate Hammond, 18, of 667 Virginia Ave., called911 to report that his family’s house was on fire. His parents,Chris and Robin Hammond, were out of town in Florida at the time ofthe fire.
Tate Hammond was the only person in the house, and he got out withno injuries.
The home was destroyed. Firefighters returned at 8:27 a.m.Monday.
“The house is a total loss,” said Brookhaven Fire Department ChiefTony Weeks said.
How the fire started remains under investigation.
“The cause of the fire is undetermined as of now,” Weeks saidTuesday morning.
