Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell is calling for assistance from the public with any information concerning a rash of burglaries that occurred late Monday night and early Tuesday morning in Ward Four.
According to Bell, property, which included CDs, laptops and firearms, was stolen from 11 different vehicles in the southwest area of town, specifically Charles Street, Avenue A, Diane Drive and Kraner Lane.
All of the vehicles that were burglarized were unlocked at the time of the crimes, Bell said.
“Not that it gives someone the right to come in your driveway, but we want people to be more vigilant about locking their vehicles,” Bell said Tuesday morning.
The Brookhaven Police Department received the first call about the break-ins at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday.
Bell said an investigator will be working the area all day Tuesday gathering information in reference to the crimes. As of Tuesday morning, the BPD does not have any leads and is urging residents of the area to assist with the investigation.
“If anybody saw anybody walking in the wee hours of the night, we would appreciate them calling in and sharing that with us,” Bell said.
Bell is also asking area residents with surveillance systems to review footage for suspicious activity and contact the BPD if they find anything that could assist the investigation.
“We want everybody to keep their eyes open and help us in protecting their property,” Bell said. “We can’t do it without them.”
