WESSON — Guards Ashley Murphy and Nikki Williams found theirshooting touch in the second half and sparked the Co-Lin LadyWolves to an 86-71 Monday night victory over the SouthwestCommunity College Lady Bears. Murphy sacked 4 treys and scored 17second-half points in Mullen Gymnasium as the Lady Wolves (13-4,9-0) won their 10th straight game and remained unbeaten in SouthDivision action.

Williams and freshman center Erica Trahan both scored 14 pointsin the triumph. Trahan also worked inside for 10 rebounds beforefouling out with 2:25 left in the game.

“We started making our shots and playing better on defense inthe second half,” said Williams. The 5-foot-7 freshman playmakerfrom White Castle, La., chipped in 6 assists and 4 steals.

“The momentum came to our side,” said Williams. “Ashley startedhitting some threes for us.”

Asked about her team’s 10-game winning streak, Williams said,”We started the season slow but then the players got to know eachother and we came together as a team.”

Coach Gwyn Young’s Lady Wolves were looking at a 32-28 halftimedeficit. Southwest (8-11, 3-6) got a game-high 26 points fromYalanda Grady, a 5-9 sophomore guard from Magnolia.

Murphy’s first trey gained a 36-36 knot with 17:22 left in thegame. The Lady Wolves took control of the scoreboard at 44-40 on afree throw by Anna Autman and another trey by Murphy. They built a16-point, 68-52 lead with 6:20 left to play when Jennifer Carternetted 2 free throws.

“At the midpoint of the second half, we played really well,”said Coach Young. “We were playing good defense and passing theball. We did a better job inside and rebounded.”

Southwest, coached by Mark Swindle, wilted down the stretch.Clarissa Thompson, a 5-11 freshman center from McComb, scored 13points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Guards Conceita Cutrer and MichelleCochran scored 11 points apiece.

Co-Lin hosts Gulf Coast Thursday night, starting at 6 p.m.Southwest hosts Meridian Thursday.
