Suspects questioned in Monday hit-and-run

A German cyclist struck in a hit-and-run on Highway 51 NorthMonday afternoon was still unconsciousness this morning, anofficial said, and investigators are questioning two suspects inthe incident.
Andreas Kaufman, 38, was listed in critical condition at theUniversity of Mississippi Medical Center this morning, said StaffSgt. Rod Crawford, public affairs officer for the MHP. He has notregained consciousness since the incident.
Kaufman was traveling south on Highway 51 south ofCopiah-Lincoln Community College around 1:15 p.m. Monday when hestruck from behind by a dark-colored Nissan passenger car driven bya white male, Crawford said.
The Nissan fled the scene, Crawford said, citing witnessreports, but sustained damage to the front passenger side,headlight and turn signal.
“We believe we have located the vehicle and are currentlyquestioning two suspects,” he said.
Evidence, such as paint chips on the vehicle, has been sent tothe crime lab, Crawford said, but he could not say when resultsmight by available.
