The Brookhaven Academy Cougars wrapped up the 2004 footballcampaign Friday night, edging the Adams County Christian SchoolRebels 22-15 at Cougar Field. Brookhaven finished the season with a9-2 mark. Adams Christian fell to 6-5 but the Rebels advance to theAA State playoffs as runners-up to Central Hinds in District3-AA.

Coach Ray Ishee saw his Brookhaven Academy team take an early7-0 lead with 7:52 remaining in the first quarter when quarterbackPrice Sessums dove in from 1 yard out. Brad Buckles added the PAT.The remainder of the first half turned into a defensive struggle asboth teams failed to reach the end zone.

“I’m proud of our team,” said Coach Ishee. “We beat a reallyphysical team tonight. We were able to step it up and play morephysical than they did. We beat them at their own game.”

Brookhaven opened the second half with a 20-yard touchdown runby Dusty Bratton with 9:03 showing in the third quarter, giving theCougars a 14-0 lead.

Cole Hodges added the last Brookhaven touchdown with 2:48remaining in the third when he powered up the middle for afour-yard run. Sessums was able to run in the two point conversionafter a bad snap, pushing the Cougar lead to 22-0.

Adams Christian mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter whenTimmy Foster connected with David Trisler on a 55-yard strike with11:26 remaining in the game, closing Brookhaven’s lead to 22-7.Foster scored again with 4:08 remaining on a 1-yard run, reducingthe Cougar lead to 22-15

Brookhaven was able to run out the clock and preserve thevictory.

Brookhaven was led by Price Sessums who was 11 of 22 passing for120 yards through the air. He rushed 15 times for 106 yards and onetouchdown.

Hodges gained 63 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown. CameronAchord led all receivers with 7 catches for 96 yards.

Adams Christian was led by Timmy Foster who gained 65

yards on 6 carries. Heath Williams had 58 yards on 8 carries forthe Rebels

“This team showed a lot of character, winning these last twogames,” added Ishee. “Price had a great year, and this team showedwho they are by not giving up after our two losses. They had agreat year.”

For the season, Sessums completed 106 of 201 pass attempts for2,232 yards and 23 touchdowns.

On defense, Brookhaven was led by Chris Falveywho made 11 tackles. Steven McKinney and Cameron Achord added 7stops a piece. Steven Covington had a fumble recovery.
