BOGUE CHITTO – A good ballclub uses a solid, stern defense toproduce results on the offensive end. If the Friday night scene atCalhoun gymnasium was any indication, Bogue Chitto basketball willgo a long ways come the post-season.

Lady Bobcats Yolanda Drummond and Randi Moak tossed in 17 pointsapiece to lead Bogue Chitto to a 59-30 thrashing of the Salem LadyWildcats. Drummond added 12 rebounds, while Moak pulled down 8boards and had 5 steals.

After a slow start, the Bobcats outscored Salem 54-17 over a16-minute stretch. Bogue Chitto cruised to a 81-46 roasting of theWildcats. Carlos Brown paced veteran head coach Theodore “Bo”Black’s squad with 19 points.

Bogue Chitto posted a 40-9 win over Salem in the JV girls. Salemdefeated Bogue Chitto 45-34 in the JV boys game.

Bogue Chitto host Enterprise in an important Division 7-1A testTuesday night. A JV girls game opens the tripleheader at 5 p.m.,followed at 6 by the varsity girls. The varsity boys game closesout the evening’s activities at 7:30.

The Lady Bobcats (11-2) jetted to a 19-5 lead at the end of thefirst period. Drummond scored 10 points to lead the way for BogueChitto head coach Mickey Myers.

“Yo-Yo (Drummond) had a real good first quarter,” said Myers.His team held a 35-12 lead at the intermission and led 50-20heading into the final frame.

Providing support for the Lady Bobcats were Jessica Melton with9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals.

“Our defense was the key tonight,” added Myers.

Salem was led by Coretta Johnson with 7 points. Ruthie Bridges,who came into the game with a 26.6 points per game average, washeld to 6 points.

The Bobcats (10-3) were a bit slow coming out of the startinggates, as evident by the 15-15 deadlock after the opening 8minutes.

Then lightning struck quickly for Bogue Chitto. The Bobcatsturned up the defensive pressure and outscored Salem 54-17 overnext 16 minutes. Coach Black’s ballclub entertained a 41-26 lead athalftime, and extended that advantage to 69-32 at the end of thethird.

“Our defense was our offense tonight,” said Black following thegame.

Michael Blackwell followed Brown with 15 points. Dorian Dunnadded 12 points. Ed Dillon had 8 points, including 2 treys.

Salem was led by James Ratliff with 15 points.

In the JV girls game, Stanci Long led Bogue Chitto with 10points. Crystal Shaw added 6 points.

Salem was led by Danielle Sasser with 6 points.

In the JV boys game, Salem was led by Tray Hammond with 16points.

Lange Porter scored 13 points and Irrie Catchings provided 9points for the Bobcats.
