WESSON — Co-Lin’s Sullivan Field has been busy this week ashead baseball coach Keith Case conducts his 12th Wolfpack BaseballCamp. Case has 79 participants from age 6 to 13 hard at work,learning the fundamental skills of baseball.

“It’s a great turnout,” said Case Wednesday morning. Case wassupervising 16 coaches who were in charge of their own individualgroup of campers. “The weather has been good. Our coaches have beenworking hard.”

Working with Case are assistant baseball coach Bryan Nobile andassistant women’s fastpitch coach Johnny Williams. The rest of thecoaching staff includes incoming and current Co-Lin baseballplayers.

In his 14 years at Co-Lin, Case has conducted a camp each yearexcept for 2000 and 2005 when the Wolves were playing in theCollege World Series. Last year, they finished fourth in the WorldSeries.

Case and his crew cover all aspects of baseball with thecampers. Pitchers, catchers, infielders and outfielders all getpersonal attention on the correct do’s and don’ts of baseball inrespect to their positions.

Under the coaches’ watchful eyes, players ran from one trainingstation to the next. There was no walking or taking it easy. Theplayers were encouraged over and over again by the staff.

The groups moved from one station to another every few minutesto allow each group to get practice in a different aspect ofbaseball, from pitching, fielding and hitting. There were plenty ofwater breaks in between.

“We are trying to give them (players) a base to work from,” saidCase.

Case is hoping the campers learn what they are teaching, take ithome with them and practice it some more. It’s important if theywant to improve as baseball players.

“They will make some changes,” added Case. “They’ll take thingshome and work on them. If they don’t work on it at home, it’ll dono good. It’s up to the campers to take it home and build fromthat.”
