William “Dub” Jacob Nelson

Services for William “Dub” Jacob Nelson of Jayess are 2 p.m.,Thursday, Feb. 22, at New Hope Baptist Church with burial in NewHope Cemetery.

Visitation today is until 1 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home.

Mr. Nelson, 81, died Feb. 20, 2001, at St. Dominic’s Hospital inJackson. He was born in Jayess on Feb. 12, 1920, to Thomas C. andElizabeth Rutland Nelson.

He was an educator and public administrator with MississippiEmployment Security Commission. He was a member of New Hope BaptistChurch. He served in the Army and Navy during WWII.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his wife, Jewell Ward Nelson of Jayess; his sons,Ronnie E. Pevey of Jayess and Gary W. Nelson of Hattiesburg; hissister, Euna Kyzar of Hattiesburg; and four grandchildren and onegreat-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the music ministry of New Hope BaptistChurch.

Mary Craig Quarles

Services for Mary Craig Quarles of Brookhaven are 2 p.m.,Saturday, Feb. 24, at St. James M. B. Church with burial in ZionHill Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from noon until 6 p.m. with family hourfrom 7-8 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.

Mrs. Quarles, 75, died Feb. 19, 2001, at her residence. She wasborn in Lincoln County on Oct. 3, 1925, to McKinley Craig and BettyCraig.

She was retired.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, JamesDavid Quarles Sr.; four children; her brothers, Charlie Craig andEarline Craig; and her sisters, Janie Pearl Green and HenriettaDodge.

Survivors are her sons, James David Quarles Jr. of Iowa City,Iowa, Willie Ray Quarles of Joliet, Ill., Jewel Quarles of Rex,Ga., Derwin Quarles of Jackson, and McKinley Quarles ofBridgewater, Mass.; her daughters, Mary L. Smith and Joyce Bledsoe,both of Brookhaven, Betty Jean Quarles of Komo, Ind., Jessie LeeQuarles of Kosciusko, and Dorothy Jean Quarles of Fayette; herbrothers, Steve Craig and Henry Lee Craig, both of Joliet, Ill.,and Willie Lee Craig of Chicago; her sisters, Annie Mae Montgomeryof Clayton, La., Ida Mae Craig of Greenwood, Vera Mae Craig ofNatchez, Estella Maxwell of Brookhaven, and Clementine Tyson andMandy Mae Craig, both of Joliet, Ill.; and 29 grandchildren and 34great-grandchildren.

Services for Jennifer Lee Scott-Black of Albion, Mich., andformerly of Lansing, Mich., are noon, Saturday, Feb. 24, at Jesusof Nazareth Church of God in Christ with burial in EvergreenCemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at Tiffany Funeral Homein Lansing and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at thechurch.

Mrs. Scott-Black, 56, died Feb. 19, 2001. She was born inLansing on Nov. 11, 1944. She was a graduate of Sexton High Schooland earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from MississippiState University.

She was a social worker and had worked in Lincoln County and inMichigan.

Survivors are her sons, Michael Kemp and Dane Kemp; her sisters,Kareemah Hasan, Jannis M. Black, Minnie Scott, Paula Young, JoyceMoore, and Regina Scott; her brothers, Michael David Scott, JeromeScott, and Phillip Scott; and six grandchildren.

Angela White

Services for Angela White of Brookhaven are 11 a.m., Saturday,Feb. 24, at Crump Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in thechurch cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from noon until 6 p.m. at WilliamsMortuary.

Mrs. White, 38, died Feb. 17, 2001, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. She was born in Lincoln County on Sept. 30, 1962, to WillMarkham and Mary White. She was a 1980 graduate of Brookhaven HighSchool.

She was a cook for Banks Barbecue Shop. She was a member ofCrump Chapel United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her mother; her daughter, AppolloniaWhite; and her sister, Anna Mae Bass.

Survivors are her father, Will Markham of Brookhaven; herdaughters, Shandraie White and Shannon White, both of Brookhaven;her brothers, Randy White of Slidell, La., Glenn White of Jackson,and Michael White of Brookhaven; her great-aunt, Wessie Mae Wellsof Brookhaven; and four grandchildren.
