Hugh C. McGuffie

Services for Hugh C. McGuffie, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Friday, July 22 at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel with burial inAntioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. McGuffie, 82, died July 20, 2005, at Countrybrook LivingCenter. He was born on Nov. 19, 1922, to J.A. “Jim” McGuffie andMaude Nations McGuffie.

He was disabled. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Heloved the outdoors and people, especially children.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, EdnaBlanche Lambert, Jewel M. Griffin and Jimmie Mae White; and onebrother, Alfred McGuffie.

Survivors are his two sisters, Pauline Crane, of Brookhaven, andLorene Sutton, of West Monroe, La.; and one brother, Paul McGuffie,of Bogue Chitto.

Ernest Lloyd Mixon

Ernest Lloyd Mixon, of McComb, died July 20, 2005, at SouthwestMississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb.

He was born in Columbia on July 20, 1920, to Ernest T. and EvaMixon.

He was an electrician and retired. He served in the Army and inWorld War II.

Preceding him in death were his parents; five sisters, HazelBrumfield, Pearl Townsend, Leslie Weir, Bea Williamson and LoisDurio.

Survivors are his four sons, Earl Mixon and his wife, Kathy, ofOregan, Garland Mixon and his wife, Sue, of Sandy Hook, Bobby Mixonand his wife, Stephanie, of Richland, and Jackie Mixon, ofLouisiana; five daughters, Carolyn Waldrop and her husband, Dick,of Texas, Shearlean Phelps and her husband, Gary, of Texas, JudyMoss and her husband, Robert, of California, Kay Grubbs and herhusband, Michael, of Tylertown, and Janet Boykin and her husband,Roy, of Terry; a sister, Nell Martin, of Fernwood; a specialfriend, June Williams; and numerous grandchildren,great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mattie Lene Perry

Services for Mattie Lene Perry, of Caseyville, are 11 a.m.Saturday, July 23 at Mary’s Temple Church of God In Christ withburial in the St. Paul on the River Church Cemetery inCaseyville.

Visitation is Friday from 1-6 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.

Ms. Perry, 90, died July 18, 2005, at Countrybrook LivingCenter. She was born on April 7, 1915, to Henry Pierce and NaomiAdams Pierce.

She was retired. She was a member of New Zion Church of God InChrist in Caseyville.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, CharlesPerry; her daughter Burnie Lee Buckley; her sisters, Alma Chambers,Beulah Clark and Naomi Houston.

Survivors are her eight brothers, Sam Pierce and James Pierce,both of Conway, Ark., Carl Pierce, of Springhill, Ark., ColonPierce and Julius Pierce, both of Conway, Oscar Pierce, ofMayflower, Ark., and Claude Pierce and Henry Pierce, both ofCleveland, Ohio; her sister, Marie Scott, of Detroit, Mich.; hergrandchildren she raised, Kathleen Fields, Denice Buckley andBernice Buckley, all of Caseyville, Otis Buckley and James Buckley,both of Chicago, Potae Buckley, of Caseyville, Antawn Buckley, ofAtlanta, and Christopher Fields, of Caseyville; othergreat-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, step family membersand friends.

Roxie Gearing Smith

Services for Roxie Gearing Smith, of Brookhaven, are 4 p.m.Saturday, July 23, at St. James M.B. Church with burial inHillcrest Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at WilliamsMortuary and Saturday from 3-4 p.m. at the church.

Ms. Smith, 71, died July 19, 2005, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. She was born on April 16, 1934, to Isaac Gearing and AliceArnold.

She was a retired bus driver for the Brookhaven Public Schoolswhere she had worked for 17 years. She was a 1953 graduate ofAlexander High School and attended Jackson State University. Shewas a member of St. James M.B. Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Willie E.”Bubba” Smith; her daughter, Felicia Cook; and her brothers,Sylvester “Red” Robinson, Tom “June Bug” Gearing and IkeGearing.

Survivors are her six daughters, Virginia Armstrong, ofBrookhaven, Shelia Truvillion, of Lansing, Mich., Jennifer Watsonand her husband, Samuel, of Spring, Texas, Samanthia Smith, ofJackson, Kathy Sheriff and her husband, Daniell III, of Jackson,and Stephanie Bobbitt and her husband, Steven, of Jackson; her twosisters, Aline McCarthy, of Lansing, and Tessie Brown, of Natchez;nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a devoted friend ofthe family, Arlustra “Pap” Henderson; and a host of nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends.

Steven Ray Wesley

Services for Steven Ray Wesley, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m.Saturday, July 23 at Brookhaven Living World Christian Center withburial in Carver Heights Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 1-6 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.

Mr. Wesley, 42, died July 15, 2005, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born on Oct. 2, 1962, to William Stacker and EleanorWesley.

He was disabled. He was a 1981 graduate of Brookhaven HighSchool and attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and SouthernUniversity in Baton Rouge, La. He served in the Navy. He was amember of Brookhaven Living Word Christian Center.

Preceding him in death was his mother.

Survivors are his brothers, Kem Wesley, of Tacoma, Wash., andRoger Wesley, of Jackson; his sisters, Kathy Heard and her husband,Kent, of Jackson, Paulette Bryant, of Brookhaven, and Cindy Wilsonand her husband, Fred, of Bogue Chitto; a special aunt, Alice AnnDixon, of Brookhaven; a special friend, Linda Clark, of Brookhaven;and a host of other relatives and friends.
