The Brookhaven Academy faculty, family and coaches honored theirCougar athletes with a spring baseball banquet Thursday night torecognize the boys for their hard work.

Brookhaven Academy head baseball coach Casey Edwards welcomed thecrowd to the banquet that was held at Polk’s Steakhouse.

Edwards, in his second year at the helm, said he was very proud ofthe year the team had. He thanked the Cougars’ faculty and all ofthe helpers for their hard work during the season and making thebanquet possible. He also gave thanks to his Cougars for the goodyear they had and for all their effort during the season.

After the meal, Edwards handed out the awards that the playersearned for their hard work.

Pitcher/third baseman Hunter McCullough was recognized with theMost Valuable Player Award. Austin Travis received the DefensivePlayer of the Year Award and Christian ‘Bubba’ Keene was selectedas the Offensive Player of the Year.

The other awards included Most Improved: Caleb Dunaway; CougarAward: Gage Posey; Mr. Hustle: Austin Travis; Best Pitcher: HunterMcCullough; All-District 4-AA: Will Lucas, Landon Nettles, HunterFranklin, McCullough, Posey, Keene and Travis; and All-District4-AA Most Valuable Player: McCullough.

At the end of the ceremony, Edwards handed out a special plaque tohis assistant coach Robert Young and thanking him for his four yearof service to the Brookhaven Academy family. Young will be movingon from BA as he is returning to his alma mater after accepting thehead coaching job in baseball at the Amite School Center. Youngwill also be serving as the offensive coordinator on the Rebelsfootball team.

After the ceremony, Edwards mentioned that it will tough losing agood friend and coach like Young, but he is looking forward toworking with his new assistant coach Hunter Ogden. Ogden is comingfrom the assistant baseball job at Adams County Christian School tojoin the Cougar family.
