BA girls defeat ASC

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars captured their second win ofthe season by defeating the Amite School Center Lady Rebels 7-3 ina district fastpitch contest Tuesday night at the Hansel KingSports Complex. They broke a scoreless duel with a 5-run, fourthinning.
“We played a great game,” said BA Head Coach Ricky Allen. “This wasthe best we played this season.”
BA capitalized on ASC errors and walks in the bottom of the fourthinning to take a 5-0 lead. The Lady Rebels answer back in the fifthwith one run. The Lady Cougars added two run for insurance in thebottom of the sixth. Amite tried to rally in the seventh but cameup short, scoring only two runs.

Junior right-hander Laura Beth Wright provided a strong pitchingperformance for the Lady Cougars (2-4, 1-0) by collecting threestrikeouts and five walks.
“If we continue to throw strikes,” continued Allen. “We will get alot better.”
Shelby Carnegie absorbed the loss for the Lady Rebels with fourstrikeouts, two walks and three hit batters.
Brookhaven Academy senior first baseman Anna Kaitlyn Mangoldproduced the offensive spark for the Lady Cougars by hitting adouble and a single. Natalie Keene also contributed with twosingles. Wright continued to fuel the fire with a double. TerahWinborne, Allie Livingston and Makenzie Davis provided a singleapiece.
Kamerio Baggett was the leading batter for the Amite School CenterLady Rebels with a triple. Ashley Etheridge and Hannah Roberts alsoprovided two singles apiece. Benzie Badon hit a double. With asingle apiece were Emily Morales, Shelby Carnegie and KatherineBillgern.
