Claver J. Blair, 77, of the Jefferson community, passed awaySunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at the University of Mississippi MedicalCenter in Jackson. He was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Carroll County tothe late James Homer and Reba DuBard Blair.

Mr. Blair was a retired air traffic controller with the FederalAviation Administration, having served there for 30 years. He wasalso a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was an activemember of Liberty Baptist Church, where he served as deacon andpreviously as music director for 46 years. He had also participatedin several mission trips to Central America through the years. Clayhad served on the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board of Directorsand with the Mississippi Baptist Convention Disaster ReliefProgram. He was also past president of the Grenada Chapter of NARFEand currently served on the board of directors of Poor House WaterAssociation. Following his service to the FAA, he served on theCarroll County Sheriff’s Department for seven years and was also abailiff with the Carroll County Chancery Court.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at 11a.m., at Liberty Baptist Church. Interment will follow in thechurch cemetery. Visitation is from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday atthe church.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane Wilson Blair; twodaughters, Janet Bates (Daryl) of Burleson, Texas, and PaulaRobbins (Doye) of Saltillo; one son, Gary A. Blair (Johanna) ofBrookhaven; one sister, Doris Blair Fitts (Joel) of Lexington, Ky.;his grandchildren, Randy Allen Bates, Jeanie Bates Robinson(Chase), Jonathan Alexander Blair, Ashley Blair Robbins, JessicaRene Robbins and Rebecca Janeal Robbins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James A.Blair.

Pallbearers are Barry DuBard, Preston Hays, Bob Mobley, C.D.Whitfield, Charles Ayers and Alvin Upchurch. Honorary Pallbearersare Sugar Mullins, Durwood Stanton, James Narmour, Gene Costilowand Earl Whittemore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the LibertyBaptist Church Cemetery Fund; the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering;or any other Mississippi Baptist causes.
