WESSON — For fullback Matthew Delaughter and the Co-LinWolfpack, every game is a big game at this stage of the season.Delaughter and his sophomore teammates celebrate their final Co-Linhomecoming Saturday when the East Central Community CollegeWarriors invade Stone Stadium. Kickoff is 5 p.m.

Co-Lin (4-2, 3-1) remains in contention for the South Divisiontitle and must continue winning each week. Jones County (6-0, 3-0)leads the South race. Gulf Coast (5-1, 3-1) is sharing second placeand already has a win over Co-Lin. Three-time defending statechampion Pearl River (5-1, 2-1) still has a shot a making theplayoffs, too.

“This is a big one for us,” said Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis.”We have to win it. This is another division game we have towin.”

The East Central Warriors (1-5, 0-4) remain winless in the SouthDivision and are residing in the basement. The Warriors are underthe direction of Coach Terry Underwood who is in his ninth year atthe helm. He has compiled a 36-25 worksheet.

“(Warriors) are struggling a little bit but they play hard,”said Davis. “Defensively, they are very good. They haven’t given upa whole lot of points”

In 6 games, the Warriors have allowed 148 points or 24.5 pointsper game. They have scored just 71 points. Last week they lost a38-7 decision to Gulf Coast.

Davis said the Warriors boast two outstanding defensive ends inKeith Spann (6-2, 255, so.) of Clinton who wears jersey No. 9 andKenyon Boatman (6-1, 230, so.) of Philadelphia, wearing jersey No.12. “Those two guys are pretty good players for them.

“In the secondary, they use their safeties to fill the run.”George Lowe (5-10, 175, so.) of Columbus and Ryan Frierson (6-0,180, fr.) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. are the safeties.

At quarterback, the Warriors are led by DeAngelo Carter (510,197, so.) of Noxapater and Josh Lowery (6-1, 193, so.) of Sparta,Ten..

ECCC’s primary receiver is Allen Stewart (6-2, 173, so.) ofTuscaloosa. The team’s top rusher is David McCants (5-8, 190, so.)of Tuscaloosa.

“They are really strong in their kicking game,” said Davis.”They return kickoffs well and try to block punts.”

Co-Lin made a strong showing on offense last Saturday as thePack came from behind to beat the Hinds Eagles in overtime.Quarterback Cedric Johnson directed the rally.

Johnson, a sophomore from Americus, Ga., completed 16 of 21passes for 222 yards and 1 touchdown. He also rushed 21 times for45 yards and 3 TDs.

Wide receiver Anthony Chambliss of Fayette was Co-Lin’s leadingreceiver with 5 catches for 78 yards. Tight end Damoyn Carrollcaught 4 passes for 43 yards, including a 22-yard TD pass inovertime.

Sophomore Aaron Johns of Thomasville, Ala., led the Co-Lin rushwith 16 carries for 92 yards and 1 TD.

On the season, Co-Lin freshman linebacker Tim Hardaway of OliveBranch is among the conference’s tackle leaders with 48 stops,including 23 solos. Freshman defensive back Clarence Pendleton ofCrystal Springs has 22 solo tackles and 23 assists.

Safety Jasper O’Quinn of Meadville leads the Pack ininterceptions with 3. Freshman defensive end Raven Gray ofEnterprise, Ala. had made 7 quarterback sacks this season.

Delaughter, a team leader, has been slowed by a broken bone inhis right hand but it hasn’t hampered his blocking skills. He’s asophomore from Brookhaven (Loyd Star).

“Matt is doing a good job for us,” said Coach Davis. “He isplaying hurt. He has a broken bone in a finger on his righthand.”

Wolf Tails: Last year East Central beat Co-Lin12-7. The Wolves haven’t won a homecoming game since 2002 when theedged East Central 34-31.
