C. Gordon Brown
Gordon Brown, of Corydon, Ind., died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2007,at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
He was born on Sept. 6, 1922, near McComb. He was the son ofClarence and Camille Price Brown. He moved to Louisville at age 14,graduated from Male High School there and was a 1948 graduate ofthe University of Kentucky. He was a private in the 8th ArmyInfantry during World War II. Until his retirement at age 81, hewas president and owner of Argus Co., beginning in 1957. He was awell-known figure in the chemical coatings industry. His treasuredpursuits were jazz, gardening and bird watching. He was married tothe former Bernadette Desalle from 1951 until 1974.
Survivors are his son, Mark Brown and wife, Hope Coolidge, ofNew York City; his daughters, Claire Brown, of Tucson, Ariz., andNatalie Ravlin and husband Terry Ravlin, of Corvallis, Ore.; hisbrothers, Douglas Brown, of Starke, Fla., and Carter Brown, ofAugusta, Ga.; and his grandchildren, Emily Coolidge, Clayton Brown,Steven Ravlin and Camille Ravlin;
Brown is a descendant of the following through his mother: J.L.(Shug) Price and Victoria (Vic) Brown Price; Wilson Price andMargaret Hart Price; James Price and Mary Blount Price; Robert(Bob) Price and Mary Moak Price.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19,at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Bogue Chitto.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to theHarrison County Hospital Foundation, 245 Atwood St., Corydon, IN47112.
Jessie Humphrey
Graveside services for Jessie Humphrey, of Brookhaven, are 11a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Mt. Zion M.B. Church Cemetery in BogueChitto. Tyler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Monday from 12 until 7 p.m. at the funeral homewith family present from 6 until 7 p.m.
Mr. Humphrey, 49, died Jan. 8, 2008, at his residence. He wasborn in Brookhaven on July 20, 1958, to Willie Humphrey and JosieMae Blue Humphrey.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors are his brothers, Willie Humphrey Jr., LutherHumphrey, and Thomas Humphrey, all of Brookhaven; and his sisters,Ada Robinson, Helen Humphrey, of Brookhaven; and Prima Lyons, ofBogue Chitto.
Daniel Loyd Lofton
Services for Daniel Loyd Lofton, of Brookhaven, will be held at2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, at Riverwood Family Funeral ServiceChapel with burial in Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery in McCallCreek.
Visitation is Saturday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mr. Lofton, 29, died Jan. 8, 2008, in Stafford, Texas. He wasborn on Aug. 9, 1978.
He was a 1997 graduate of Brookhaven Academy, where he wasall-conference in football, and attended the University of SouthernMississippi. He worked with Noble Drilling in the oil field. He wasa member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Loyd and AnnLofton; and his grandfather, Harold Smith.
Survivors are his father, Robert E. Lofton and wife Suzette; hismother, Judy Smith Hart and husband, C.G.; his brother, Chad Loftonand wife Lorrie; his grandmother, Irene Smith Meredith; hisgreat-grandmother, Hollis S. Douglas; his nephew, Jacob LoydLofton; his niece, Deanna Jewel Lofton; and many uncles, aunts,cousins and friends.
Ada Bell McCullough
Services for Ada Bell McCullough, of Bogue Chitto, are 2 p.m.Sunday, Jan. 13, at Community Funeral Services with burial in ShadyGrove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. McCullough, 76, died Jan. 10, 2008. She was born inCalifornia on Dec. 28, 1931, to Ira McClelland and Julia WomackMcClelland.
She was a homemaker and devoted her time as a caretaker for theelderly.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, D.W.McCullough; one son, Robert Earl Laird; six brothers, R.M.,Johnnie, George, J.D., Charlie, and Tommy McClelland; and twosisters, Eunice Melancon and Myrtle Rushing.
Survivors are her sons, Roger Dale, Wilfred, and Willie Laird,of Bogue Chitto; her brother, Wayne McClelland and wife Ann, ofWesson; two sisters, Chris Gebhart, of Baton Rouge, La., and JuliaAnn Johnson and husband Harlan, of Smithdale; five stepchildren; 11grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two specialdaughter-in-laws, Norma Jean Whitley and Judy Johnson; and numerousnieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Carl E. Rayburn Jr.
Services for Carl E. Rayburn Jr., of Jayess, are 11 a.m. Monday,Jan. 14, at Powell’s Grove United Pentecostal Church with burial inMagnolia Hill Cemetery in Segno, Texas. Hawthorn Funeral Home inColumbia is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Rayburn, 58, died Jan. 11, 2008, at his residence. He wasborn on June 13, 1949, to Carl E. Rayburn Sr. and Marion OdeliaRayburn.
He was a oil field trucker. He was in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors are his wife, Rhonda Dianne Hickman Rayburn; his sons,Carl Eugene Rayburn III, of Victoria, Texas, and Dallas RayRayburn, of Jayess; his brothers, Douglas Ray Rayburn, Larry WayneRayburn, and Gary Lynn Rayburn, all of Jayess; his sisters, MarionOdelia Oliver, Vickie Elaine Turner, and Tammy Gay Babin, all ofRuth; and one granddaughter.
Geneva Salter
Services for Geneva Salter, of Wesson, were 2 p.m. Saturday,Jan. 12, at Harrigill Funeral Home with burial in Shiloh BaptistChurch Cemetery.
Mrs. Salter, 97, died Jan. 9, 2008, at Bedford Care Center inHattiesburg. She was born in Upton, Ky. on Nov. 20, 1910, toGrandville D. Caswell and Leona Mae Light Caswell.
She was a retired kindergarten teacher for Monticello BaptistChurch. She was a member of Wesson Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, the Rev. U. G. Saller;and her son, John E. Salter.
Survivors are her sister, L. B. Marion, of Clarksdale; and hergrandson, John E. Salter Jr.
