Two killed in accidents

A New Hebron teenager was killed Monday night and a Jayess manSaturday in unrelated accidents in Lawrence County, said SheriffJoel Thames.
Amanda Hartzog, 17, of 40 Riley Lane, was killed around 5 p.m.Monday near 1054 Crooked Creek Road when her 1998 Toyota Tacomaleft the road and struck some trees, Thames said.
Early Saturday morning, Kinni Greer, 20, of 632 Jayess-TopekaRoad, was killed on Bismarck Road near Lee Pittman Lane when his2002 Chevrolet Camry struck a tree after leaving the road, Thamessaid.
Hartzog, a sophomore at Lawrence County High School, wastraveling south on Crooked Creek Lane with a male passenger whenshe lost control of the vehicle, the sheriff said.
“According to the boy she was with, something fell off the seatand she reached down to get it, causing her to run off the road andinto some trees,” Thames said.
The pickup began flipping after first contact and Hartzog wasthrown from the vehicle, he said.
The passenger was not injured, but Hartzog was pronounced deadat the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Sidney Fortenberry, thesheriff said.
In the Satuday incident, it’s unclear when Greer was killed,Thames said. The sheriff’s department received a 911 call about theaccident at 4:54 a.m. Saturday.
“We don’t how long before that the accident occurred,” hesaid.
Fortenberry pronounced Greer dead at the scene.
Investigators have not determined what caused Greer to losecontrol of the vehicle, Thames said. The crash occurred on astraightaway.
