Roy Vaughn Phillips, 82, known affectionately to many as”Two-Daddy,” passed away Nov. 14, 2007, at the home of Diane andMike McIntyre, where he had been living for the past four yearsfollowing a successful heart valve replacement.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at StringerFamily Funeral Services in Crystal Springs. Services will be heldat 3 p.m. on Friday at Stringer Family Chapel with burial inCrystal Springs Cemetery.

He was born in Carrolton on Sept. 9, 1925, to Homer and BeatricePhillips.

He attended Eupora schools through the 11th grade. He finished hissenior year at Crystal Springs High School. He was a linebacker andcenter on the football team. In his spare time he worked for hisfather’s lumber company, W.H. Phillips Lumber Co., in CrystalSprings.

Mr. Phillips joined the Navy at age 18 in October 1943. DuringWorld War II he worked as a gunner’s mate on the LST 519. The youngnaval veteran participated in the invasion of Normandy thatultimately liberated Europe from the Nazi occupation on June 6,1944. He was involved in many of the WWII campaigns in and aroundthe Mediterranean, North Africa, Italy, Germany, France, Hollandand Belgium, making more than 70 missions across the EnglishChannel. After the war, he worked at different times with all threeof his brothers, (Ralph, Ned and Bruce Phillips) in thelumber/timber business out of Crystal Springs, Oregon and BritishColumbia, Canada. Roy retired from the timber industry afterworking 25 years for the Masonite Corporation.

His daughter, Diane Payne McIntyre, said that he never met astranger, was kind to everyone, and was the type of person whowould help anyone and then thank them for letting him help. Heloved the Atlanta Braves baseball team, football (especially thePackers), fishing, traveling with his daughter and family, andspoiling his little poodle and constant companion, Gypsy, easilythe smartest dog ever!

Mr. Phillips was a member of the Presbyterian Church of CrystalSprings. He is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte CrosbyPayne Phillips; sister, Mildred Gardner; and brothers, Ralph, Nedand Bruce Phillips.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Diane and MikeMcIntyre, of Wesson; daughter, Judy Greer, of Crystal Springs; andgrandsons, Jason Bailey, Michael McIntyre Jr., Ritch Kuroda andwife Lanette Kuroda, and great-grandchildren, Kalani and Kalei.
